After the workshop, time for a couple of more photos before departure.

Spotting similarities on the street (above photo) are more common than you might think.  As a  'street photographer'  I'm always scanning the street for interesting things like this.  The funniest thing about this is the  guy is just innocently standing here, smoking, and doesn't have a clue that he became a visual phenomena for this  capture of  an 'unscripted' moment on the street.  I will show you some more of these moments as we go along.

This is Sydney and  you just don't know what you might find next.  While walking down the street this particular night with my husband,  a PINK HUMMER pulled up next to us and  hum hum... .. a group of guys on a 'Bucks night' are out on the town.  Here is the 'groom to be'.   "What was he doing?".  Well, not belly dancing as his dress might suggest, he was going around explaining  to strangers that it was his 'Bucks night' and asking  them for  gold coin donations for beers. (for he and the boys) .  Well , like I mentioned, it is Sydney and anything can be happening.   These are a couple of people he approached who kindly donated to his cause. 

 I think he thought this through. Dressed to entertain - who would refuse?  Meanwhile the 'boy crew' in the party stayed their distance and waited for the coin collection.

Workshop with David Alan Harvey - part 3 (final)

Who would have thought that with the 'Underground City' theme there could be so many different options.  That was the problem, 'too many options'.  The whole idea of building a 'body of work' is to stay focussed on the theme and have consistencies that flow together.  You can already see from my previous explorations for these theme, they should all be a 'body of work' on their own.

Workshop with David Alan Harvey - part 2

Spending time underground to gather images for my 'themed photo essay' the 'Underground City', lead me to some interesting places.  These photos were taken around Central Stataion.  I discovered that central station is a whole 'city' within itself.  Easy to get lost and each time I disembarked the train I ended up out and down a 'different' tunnel.  Totally different photos from the previous day.   This was a good day as you can see these photos almost have a 'European 'feel to them.  
I came back another night to see if I could capture more - but there was no lady with a guitar and the ambience was so different - lifeless in fact.

Workshop with David Alan Harvey - part 1

My initial idea for a 'themed' essay during the workshop was the underground stations in Sydney and with a title 'Underground City'.
The trains and stations are so different to Brisbane and it is incredibly interesting to watch the daily commuters at any time during the day.  The trains are also dark with lots of scatches and graffiti inside and out and this  also makes for interesting capture.   

So with this initial idea in mind, I go out to explore. Spending time in and out of the train system,   here are just a few shots to give you an idea of  what was going on at the time.

Today is the day.  The 'Workshop' start date, with David Alan Harvey, during his visit to Sydney Australia as part of the "Head On" Photograhy Festival held each year in Sydney. Along with several other students, many who flew not only from other parts of Australia, but from parts of the world, we gathered together to learn and grow become inspired.

I took off to Sydney to attend a mentoring workshop with David Alan Harvey, a famous Magnum Photographer.

I arrived  in Sydney a few days before the workshop started in May, so I could look around and to do a bit of 'street photography'
