Random Street Photography around Marrakech See commentary Marrakech in Multiple Ways 1 (below) I took all possible opportunities to photograph people going about their everyday life in Marrakech. This mean't casual shooting when walking by and observing moments from looking out of the bus window and taking the chance to capture before the bus jolted off. Aiming to be discrete, was important, as for some Moroccons, their cultural belief is if photographed, you have ‘taken their soul’. However for others without this belief, there was a frequent ‘request for dirhams ‘ in exchange for a photos. The city of Marrakech, very different during the day, than it's alluring magic during the night. However during the daytime and just as fascinating, is wandering around the area of the Medina north of the Jemaa El Fna where you find the central industry areas, a fibrous network of souks. Here you find alleyway upon alleyway of tiny retail and local factory cubicles. The further in you venture the more interesting they become. A mini slide above takes you to the 'Souk Industry'
From shoes to leather goods, metal ware to anything that anyone needs, wants or desires. Click on the photos below for larger views. Wandering around the old Jewish Quarter, the ‘Mellah’ this place looks distinctly different from the rest of the Medina, almost a town in itself with it’s own gardens and synagogues. Occupied now mostly by Muslims as many of the Jewish people have moved to Casablanca and or other places.
